Philosophy of Interscholastic Athletics

Espanol Translation English Translation

The main goal of the Fallsburg Central School District's Interscholastic Athletic Program is to provide experiences that are fun and promote individual growth within a safe and healthy environment. We hope that all students will participate in some phase of our athletic program. These will be memorable experiences that last a lifetime.

When your son/daughter chooses to participate in one of our sports programs, we feel that they have committed themselves to certain responsibilities and obligations. The information below will acquaint you with some specific policies/ rules that are necessary for a well organized program of interscholastic athletics. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the athletic program, please contact the Director of Physical Education and Athletics.

Responsibilities of a Fallsburg Athlete

Being a member of a Fallsburg athletic team is a privilege and honor. To many athletes, it is the fulfillment of an early ambition. The attainment of this goal carries with it certain traditions and responsibilities that must be attained.

Responsibilities to Yourself:

The most important of these responsibilities is to broaden yourself and develop strength of character. You owe it to yourself to get the greatest possible good from your high school and junior high school experiences. Your studies, your participation in other school activities as well as athletics, prepare you for life as an adult.

Responsibilities to Your School:

Another responsibility you assume as a squad member is to your school. Fallsburg cannot maintain its position as an outstanding school unless you do your best in whatever activity you wish to engage. By participating in athletics to the maximum of your ability, you are contributing to the reputation of the school.

Responsibilities to Others:

You have a responsibility to your family to always do the best you can. When participating in athletics, we sometimes feel that we have failed if we have not won. By trying the best that you can and following all rules set up by your squad, you can feel justifiably proud of yourself no matter what the win-loss record indicates. Younger students look up to you and it is your responsibility to set a good example for them.

Athletic Code of Conduct

At the beginning of every sports season (Fall, Winter, Spring) each athlete and their parents or guardians will be required to sign Athletic Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct outlines the rules and regulations that each athlete must abide by while participating on a Fallsburg sports team. The code addresses students' behavior in the school, community, and athletic arena; sportsmanship; academics; use of athletic equipment; and training and conditioning requirements.

The athletic Code of Conduct commits the athlete to many responsibilities and this code must be signed and turned into the coaching staff prior to the first contest. If the Athletic Code is not turned in on time, the athlete will not be allowed to participate.
