Tobacco Information
Espanol Translation English Translation

The Fallsburg Central School District is a Tobacco Free Zone.

Federal law, New York State law and School District policy prohibit tobacco use on school property.  The District's Code of Conduct for students also prohibits possession of tobacco on campus or at school functions.

We hope the following information will help provide you with the information you need.

If quitting smoking creates anxiety, you are not alone. Here is some humor to help you feel better before you read further:

Mark Twain: "I know all about quitting smoking. I've done it over a hundred times."

Here are some cartoons about quitting smoking:

For those who use tobacco who would like to achieve freedom from nicotine, here are some encouraging facts from a medical doctor. These are the good consequences after you quit using tobacco:

  1. After 20 minutes your heart rate slows.
  2. After 12 hours the carbon monoxide in your blood returns to a normal level.
  3. Between 2 weeks to 3 months your lung functions improve and your risk of heart attacks declines.
  4. Between 1 to 9 months your coughing and shortness of breath reduces.
  5. After 1 year your risk of a heart attack in one half that of a smoker's.
  6. Between 5 to 15 years your risk of stroke is the same as someone who does not smoke.
  7. After 10 years your risk of lung cancer is one half that of a smoker's.
  8. After 15 years your risk of a heart attack is that of a non-smoker's.
