December 3, 2018 is now an historic date for Fallsburg Central School District. On this night, the newly renovated gymnasium was opened for use by the Fallsburg High School Girls Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball Teams. When Superintendent Dr. Ivan Katz welcomed everyone to a ribbon cutting ceremony at half court between the two games, he recognized many dignitaries on hand for the special evening.
Members of the Board of Education, representatives from the school district staff and administration, neighboring school districts and BOCES were present, along with members of the Town Board and Police Department. Members of the Sullivan County Legislature and the State of New York Legislature, including the Honorable Jen Metzger, newly elected Senator for the 42nd Senate District, came to celebrate the occasion.
Dr. Katz informed everyone that 2018 is the 60th anniversary of opening the doors at the Fallsburg Junior-Senior High School on September 8, 1958. He thanked the Fallsburg voters for supporting the building project referendum in May of 2017 that included the beautiful new gym facility for future athletic and other district events.
Director of Physical Education and Athletics Suzanne Lendzian and BOE President Debra Barbiani were honored to cut the ribbon held by two senior members of the Girls Varsity Team. Directly behind the ribbon was a banner commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Jr/Sr High School Building that was held by two other senior basketball teammates.
The evening was a memorable celebration of Fallsburg Central School District that ended with an exciting come from behind victory by the Lady Comets against Rondout Valley. What a perfect ending for an historic night.
