Dear Parent/Guardian:
This afternoon at BCES elementary, two students reported that a third student had made a threat against them . An investigation by the BCES administration and the BCES school resource officer found that the threat was not credible. The student who made the threat expressed that they were not serious and that it was a joke. That student will face discipline per the Code of Conduct.
The reason I’m sharing this information with you is because I am aware of how the rumor mill can work and how a story can be passed around, causing unnecessary alarm. The incident above was shared among students and that means that it can make its way around the district. While this incident was not a district threat, nonetheless, it has the capacity to be discussed in and out of the district and the facts can get distorted.
That said, we are always concerned about the behavior of students especially when it comes to things like making threats, regardless of whether they are credible, not credible, real or made in jest. We take each threat very seriously and we investigate them fully. I am thankful that we have an administrative team that works with our School Resource Officer to investigate threats and to resolve them as quickly as possible.
I continue to be thankful that we have students who know the value and importance of saying something when they hear or see something. I’m proud of our students when they make reports on things that are of concern to them. This level of teamwork continues to keep us all safe and informed.
Because this is now the second instance a student in the district decided to make a threat as a "joke," I am asking all parents to please share with your children that making threats, jokes or otherwise, is completely inappropriate. It is not only a violation of the Code of Conduct but it is a direct safety threat to the student making the "joke' and everyone else in the district.
Both of these "jokes" required our school administrators and our School Resource Officer to spend valuable time addressing a threat that was meant as a "joke." This is unacceptable behavior and students who decide to take this course of action will be dealt with per the Code of Conduct and possibly the Fallsburg Police Department.

Esta tarde, en la escuela primaria BCES, dos estudiantes denunciaron que un tercer estudiante los habÃa amenazado. Una investigación realizada por la administración y el oficial de recursos escolares de BCES determinó que la amenaza no era creÃble. El estudiante que la amenazó afirmó que no hablaba en serio y que era una broma. Este estudiante enfrentará medidas disciplinarias según el Código de Conducta.
Comparto esta información con ustedes porque sé cómo funcionan los rumores y cómo una historia puede circular, causando una alarma innecesaria. El incidente mencionado se compartió entre estudiantes, lo que significa que puede circular por todo el distrito. Si bien este incidente no representó una amenaza para el distrito, puede ser discutido dentro y fuera del distrito y los hechos pueden distorsionarse.
Dicho esto, siempre nos preocupa el comportamiento de los estudiantes, especialmente cuando se trata de amenazas, ya sean creÃbles, falsas, reales o en broma. Nos tomamos cada amenaza muy en serio y las investigamos a fondo. Agradezco que contemos con un equipo administrativo que colabora con nuestro Oficial de Recursos Escolares para investigar las amenazas y resolverlas lo antes posible.
Sigo agradecido de que tengamos estudiantes que comprenden el valor y la importancia de decir algo cuando escuchan o ven algo. Me enorgullezco de nuestros estudiantes cuando informan sobre asuntos que les preocupan. Este nivel de trabajo en equipo nos mantiene a todos seguros e informados.
Dado que esta es la segunda vez que un estudiante del distrito decide hacer una amenaza a modo de broma, pido a todos los padres que compartan con sus hijos que hacer amenazas, bromas o cualquier otro tipo de amenaza es completamente inapropiado. No solo constituye una violación del Código de Conducta, sino que también representa una amenaza directa para la seguridad del estudiante que hace la broma y de todos los demás en el distrito.
Ambas "bromas" obligaron a los administradores escolares y a nuestro oficial de recursos escolares a dedicar tiempo valioso a abordar una amenaza que pretendÃa ser una "broma". Este comportamiento es inaceptable y los estudiantes que decidan actuar de esta manera serán sancionados según el Código de Conducta y posiblemente por el Departamento de PolicÃa de Fallsburg.
