On December 9, 2024, the Fallsburg Central School District Board of Education honored John Halchak Jr. for being posthumously inducted into the Wall of Coaching Distinction. The Fallsburg Board of Education presented the plaque to Mr. Halchak’s son, Jack Halchak.
The Wall of Coaching Distinction recognizes athletic coaches who have made a significant impact on the Fallsburg school community. Mr. Halchak is now one of five former staff members to be inducted.
John Halchak Jr. joined Fallsburg in 1957, initially serving as a physical education and driver’s education teacher and the head coach of the basketball, baseball, golf, and swimming teams. He led his swimming team to the DUSO League swimming championship in 1966 and his baseball team to the Section IX Class D championships in 1985. And from 1980 to 1989, he served as the district’s athletic director.
Students and staff, who knew Mr. Halchak, applauded his unparalleled commitment to the Fallsburg school community. He was known to forge strong bonds and treat everyone with the upmost respect. He encouraged his students and athletes to push themselves beyond their limits, regardless of the adversities ahead.
“On behalf of the Halchak family, I do thank you all [the Board of Education] for this very prestigious award," said Jack. “We are truly honored.”
