Dear Parent/Guardian,
I would like to inform you about an incident that took place at the Junior-Senior High School yesterday, (Thursday May 29, 2025). During the early afternoon, a student consumed a gummy-like substance and felt sick afterward. The student was then transported to the hospital for evaluation. The gummy-like substance in the student’s system tested positive for THC at the hospital. THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. Thankfully the student is in stable condition.
THC can have many negative effects on a user from impairing abilities to causing adverse physical reactions. In this case it required immediate medical attention.
This incident is being investigated by the school administration and the Fallsburg Police Department.
The health, safety and welfare of students is our top priority and it remains so. That said, it is very concerning when a student consumes and/or experiments with drugs and other substances that can cause them harm. I urge our students to not consume anything that is edible without knowing the contents of what they are ingesting as that can have very dangerous and long-lasting effects.
I also urge parents and guardians to continue having conversations with their children about the dangers that are out there when it comes to edibles and their availability. If you have any questions or would like to know what supports are available for parents and students, please don't hesitate to reach out to your school (BCES or the Junior-Senior High School) for guidance. Quiero informarle sobre un incidente que tuvo lugar en la escuela secundaria/preparatoria ayer (jueves 29 de mayo de 2025). Durante la primera parte de la tarde, un estudiante consumió una sustancia similar a una gomita y luego se sintió mal. El estudiante fue trasladado al hospital para una evaluación. En el hospital, se determinó que la sustancia tipo gomita contenÃa THC. El THC es el principal componente psicoactivo del cannabis. Afortunadamente, el estudiante se encuentra en condición estable.
El THC puede tener muchos efectos negativos en quien lo consume, desde afectar sus habilidades hasta provocar reacciones fÃsicas adversas. En este caso, fue necesaria la atención médica inmediata.
Este incidente está siendo investigado por la administración escolar y el Departamento de PolicÃa de Fallsburg.
La salud, seguridad y bienestar de nuestros estudiantes es nuestra principal prioridad y asà seguirá siendo. Dicho esto, es muy preocupante cuando un estudiante consume o experimenta con drogas u otras sustancias que pueden ser perjudiciales. Insisto a nuestros estudiantes a no consumir nada comestible sin saber exactamente qué contiene, ya que eso puede tener consecuencias muy peligrosas y duraderas.
También insisto a los padres y tutores a seguir hablando con sus hijos sobre los peligros que existen en relación con los comestibles y su disponibilidad. Si tiene alguna pregunta o desea saber qué apoyos están disponibles para padres y estudiantes, no dude en comunicarse con su escuela (BCES o la escuela secundaria/ preparatoria JSHS) para orientación.
