On October 18, 2023, two Fallsburg school community members, Ms. Penny Esposito and School Resource Officer Phil Brooks, were honored during the annual Sullivan County School Boards Association Awards Dinner.
Ms. Esposito, a high school English teacher of 26 years, was the recipient of the Outstanding Educator Award. Ms. Esposito’s approach to education has been described as highly dedicated and compassionate. She is regarded as a significant role model amongst students and staff. In addition to being a teacher, Ms. Esposito was the previous president of the Fallsburg Teacher’s Association. As president, she was a strong ally for educators through her tireless commitment to furthering the interest of teachers throughout the district.
“To tell you that it is an honor to work with Penny Esposito is a complete understatement, but what I can tell you is that words alone will never do justice to the kind of outstanding educator Penny Esposito is or the positive difference she has made thus far in her career for the kids and adults of the Fallsburg Central School District,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ivan Katz.
Officer Brooks, a school resource officer for the Fallsburg Junior-Senior High School, was named the recipient of the Outstanding Friend to Education Award. Throughout his time at Fallsburg, Officer Brooks has been an advocate for student success and well-being. He has remained deeply involved in school community events and celebrates student achievements. Many students consider him to be more than an officer, rather, he is a friend to seek out and talk to.
“Phil’s willingness to go above and beyond for our students demonstrates his exemplary character and relentless work ethic,” said Dr. Katz. “Phil Brooks truly makes a positive difference in the lives of students in the Fallsburg Central School District.”
