Dear School Community Member:
We all are very aware there is an ongoing crisis in Israel and Palestine. I know our hearts are with those who are impacted by the horrible events that began last week.
These attacks are causing fear, confusion and upset in and around communities everywhere. While all this is happening, it is important to know that the Fallsburg Central School District provides a safe and protected learning environment for our students. Our students have access to many social-emotional supports within our school buildings to support them when the things they see and hear can be unsettling and scary. Our staff members play an important role in providing safe havens for our students when they need that.
Students at FCSD have access to counseling and other mental health supports to help them deal with the kinds of stress and trauma that they may be dealing with as a result of constant media coverage on the atrocities of the conflict in the Middle East.
We are a school district that embraces diversity, equity and inclusivity and we work to make these values part of the fabric of our school community. Together, we can make that happen.
Parents and educators undoubtedly are faced with or may be facing many difficult questions that arise. To that end, the New York State Education Department (SED) has created a webpage called The Israeli-Palestinian Crisis: Resources for Educators, Caregivers, and School Leaders (https://www.nysed.gov/news/2023/statement-chancellor-lester-w-young-jr-board-regents-and-commissioner-betty-rosa-impact). SED officials plan to continuously update the site with new resources in the coming days and weeks. FCSD is being updated by all of our available resources.
The Fallsburg Central School District continues to make the health, safety and welfare of our students, staff and visitors the highest priority.
