Dear Parent/Guardian:

This afternoon, two students at the Junior-Senior High School were having a conversation with each other. In this conversation between two students, an inappropriate finger gesture was made, one student called a second student a school shooter and the second student responded by saying that they were.  While no direct threat was made, the conversation was observed and heard by several students and the content of the conversation was quite concerning.

A complete investigation by the junior-senior high school administration and our School Resource Officer indicated that there is no cause for concern as there was no direct or indirect threat made against anyone. The students involved in the conversation made a poor choice in the words they used. The students involved will face discipline per the Code of Conduct.

I am sharing this information because the conversation was overheard by other students, and inaccurate information can quickly spread through rumors.

We do take very seriously the words that students choose to use in school because words are powerful, emotive and can cause concern to those who hear those words.

We continue to address the behavior of students especially when it comes to things like making inappropriate comments even if it is in a normal conversation.

We take such inappropriate behaviors very seriously and we investigate them accordingly.  Students who violate the Code of Conduct with inappropriate behaviors may face severe consequences at different levels.

Esta tarde, dos estudiantes de la Escuela Secundaria (Junior-Senior High School) estaban conversando entre sí. En esta conversación, uno de los estudiantes hizo un gesto inapropiado con el dedo, un estudiante llamó "tirador escolar" a otro estudiante y este último respondió diciendo que lo era. Si bien no se hizo ninguna amenaza directa, la conversación fue observada y escuchada por varios estudiantes, y el contenido de la misma fue bastante preocupante.

Una investigación completa por parte de la administración de la Escuela Secundaria (Junior-Senior High School) y nuestro Oficial de Recursos Escolares indicó que no hay motivo de preocupación, ya que no se hizo ninguna amenaza directa o indirecta contra nadie. Los estudiantes involucrados en la conversación tomaron una mala decisión con las palabras que usaron. Los estudiantes involucrados enfrentarán medidas disciplinarias según el Código de Conducta.

Comparto esta información porque la conversación fue escuchada por otros estudiantes, y la información inexacta puede propagarse rápidamente a través de rumores.

Nos tomamos muy en serio las palabras que los estudiantes eligen usar en la escuela, porque las palabras son poderosas, emotivas y pueden causar preocupación a quienes las escuchan.

Continuamos abordando el comportamiento de los estudiantes, especialmente cuando se trata de hacer comentarios inapropiados, incluso si es en una conversación normal.

Nos tomamos muy en serio estos comportamientos inapropiados y los investigamos en consecuencia. Los estudiantes que violen el Código de Conducta con comportamientos inapropiados pueden enfrentar severas consecuencias en diferentes niveles.
