Important NoticeDear Parent/Guardian:

This afternoon the Junior-Senior High School conducted a hold-in-place, one of our adopted safety procedures, while the administration and School Resource Office investigated a student-initiated rumor regarding an alleged “weapon” in the school building.  The investigation concluded and indicated that there was never an actual weapon in the building and that it was only a rumor being shared among a few students. 

One of those students shared that rumor with an adult. Once the adult was made aware of the rumor, the administration and School Resource Officer were notified and an immediate investigation took place. Once the investigation concluded and no weapon was found, the hold-in-place was lifted and the regular school day resumed.

A hold-in-place is called when we need to restrict the movement of students and staff within a building while dealing with short-term emergencies.  Thankfully it was nothing more than a rumor, but, that said, we take each and every rumor (or threat or alleged joke) very seriously and we fully investigate each to its conclusion.

I would like to take a moment and encourage students to not perpetuate rumors by repeating them to others but, rather, to go directly to an adult in the building with the information so that it can be investigated. The health, safety and welfare of our students, staff and visitors remains our top priority.

Esta tarde, la escuela secundaria realizó una cuarentena, uno de nuestros procedimientos de seguridad, mientras la administración y la Oficina de Recursos Escolares investigaban un rumor, iniciado por estudiantes, sobre una supuesta "arma" en el edificio. La investigación concluyó que nunca hubo un arma real en el edificio y que solo se trataba de un rumor compartido entre algunos estudiantes.

Uno de esos estudiantes compartió el rumor con un adulto. Una vez que este se enteró, se notificó a la administración y al oficial de recursos escolares, y se inició una investigación inmediata. Una vez concluida la investigación y sin encontrar ningún arma, se levantó la orden de detención y se reanudó la jornada escolar.

Se aplica una medida de confinamiento cuando necesitamos restringir la circulación de estudiantes y personal dentro de un edificio al atender emergencias a corto plazo. Afortunadamente, no fue más que un rumor, pero, dicho esto, nos tomamos muy en serio cualquier rumor (o amenaza o supuesta broma) y lo investigamos a fondo hasta su conclusión.

Quisiera tomarme un momento para animar a los estudiantes a no perpetuar rumores repitiéndolos, sino a acudir directamente a un adulto en el edificio con la información para que pueda investigarse. La salud, la seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes, personal y visitantes siguen siendo nuestra principal prioridad.
