I was just made aware of a very scary scam attempt that happened to one of our district parents. The parent received an anonymous phone call from someone to tell her that her child had been abducted and that she would only be able to get the child back if she sent money in the form of gift cards. This was clearly a scam attempt as the child was not actually abducted and was quickly located and confirmed to be with his parents by our exceptionally responsive police department.

The annual National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society Induction ceremony took place at the Fallsburg Junior-Senior High School auditorium on September 26, 2024. Students who are inducted have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and character. The Fallsburg Police Department and I received information late last night regarding online threats made on social media regarding the Fallsburg Central School District. This information came to our attention from parents, students and staff who had the presence of mind to say something after they saw something on social media. These threats, which mention shooting, are circulating the social media platform Snapchat. I was just informed by the Fallsburg Police Department that an arrest has been made relative to these threats and there is no longer a threat to the school district. ​

On June 24, 2024, the Fallsburg Central School District held their annual Sixth Grade Moving Up Ceremony at Benjamin Cosor Elementary School. Each of the 107 sixth grade students were recognized for completing their elementary education and transitioning into becoming middle school students. Volunteers are needed to help with Fallsburg's A Single Bite summer meal delivery program. Summer meals will be delivered on Thursday afternoons beginning Thursday, June 27th. The Fallsburg Central School District is excited to announce the return of their summer food program. The free-of-charge program will be available to children in the school district under the age of 18 from July 8th to August 16th. For the eighth time in the program’s history, the Fallsburg Junior-Senior High School’s robotics team will be making an appearance in the VEX Robotics World Championship. The purpose of this letter is to give you an update on our snow day situation. At this time, the school district has five (5) snow days left on the schedule. Therefore, as noted in our adopted 2023-2024 school year calendar, school will be closed on the following days. If we use one or more snow days in between now and then we will send a new update. The Town of Fallsburg free Basketball program focus is on fundamentals in the majority of the practice time. On November 8, 2023, the Fallsburg Central School District held its annual Fall sports banquet at the high school auditorium. Sixty-one students were celebrated by their coaches and families for their exceptional athletic accomplishments. They’re responsible for providing resources for teachers, promoting an inclusive school environment, and improving the quality of education. However, in recent years, districts throughout the Hudson Valley region have seen a decline in certified and available school administrator candidates. On October 17, 2023, the Fallsburg Central School District held a memorial ceremony on the front lawn of the Fallsburg Junior-Senior High School to honor the many teachers, administrators, and staff members who have passed. Dear School Community Member: We all are very aware there is an ongoing crisis in Israel and Palestine. I know our hearts are with those who are impacted by the horrible events that began last week. These attacks are causing fear, confusion and upset in and around communities everywhere. While all this is happening, it is important to know that the Fallsburg Central School District provides a safe and protected learning environment for our students. Our students have access to many social-emotional supports within our school buildings to support them when the things they see and hear can be unsettling and scary. Our staff members play an important role in providing safe havens for our students when they need that. Mel Feldman and Paul Marsden received the highest honor that Fallsburg Athletic Coaches can attain when they were inducted into the FCSD Wall of Coaching Distinction on January 18, 2023, at the Board of Education meeting. Unfortunately, Mel was under the weather and he was well represented by his family. I want to take a moment to clarify some confusion that has been caused by an Opt-out Letter that is part of the School Calendar you received late this summer. The confusion and questions that have come to my attention involve some of the wording in the Opt-out letter. Today we learned that a staff member at BCES tested positive for Covid-19 and is required to isolate. There were no exposures as a result and no students or staff are required to quarantine. The purpose of this update is to share with you guidance for schools, school districts as the statewide school mask mandate was lifted on March 2, 2022. As you may be aware, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has modified its recommendations regarding COVID-19. With that said, the CDC's recommendations may result in future changes to New York's approach to addressing COVID-19 in public school settings. However, at this time, the Governor and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) have not made any changes. The current guidance remains in place. Masks are still required in school settings including the Fallsburg Central School District.

Over the past few days, we learned that 1 student and one staff member at BCES tested positive for Covid-19 and are required to isolate. As a result, 7 additional students are required to quarantine. There are no Covid-19 updates for the Junior Senior High School at this time. Due to the uncertainty of the upcoming weather forecast, the winter ice-skating event scheduled for this Saturday, February 5, 2022, at BCES, from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM, is canceled. I am writing to you with an update on our Winter Concert. As you know, the show was originally planned for this past December. It came to my attention earlier this evening that there was an alleged non-specific gun threat made to the District by a student. The police were contacted immediately and began an investigation. As a result of that investigation the police have determined that the alleged gun threat was not credible.

This morning we received information that one student at BCES tested positive for Covid-19. The student was not in the building and no further actions need to be taken.

Today we received information that a student at BCES, who is currently quarantined, tested positive for COVID-19 today. That student was last in the building on Monday (11/1/21). At this time, no contact tracing or further action is needed.

Welcome to the rapidly approaching 2021-2022 school year. While we still have a few weeks left before classes begin, we are actively preparing for the upcoming fall sports season. One major change the Athletic department is excited about is online student registration through, FamilyID. NYS requires health exams for a new student in a school district and when they enter Pre-K or Kindergarten, and grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. Recognizing that the Covid-19 pandemic has undermined the learning of all of our children, with its greatest harm on those students who can least afford it, we all want to see our schools fully open and all children able to attend school in-person. For the past several years the after-school program has been funded by the Empire After-School program. The grant has afforded many special programs and opportunities for student learning. Good News! We have updated the 2020-2021 school calendar. Days that we previously considered "snow days' will now be days that students are engaged in remote learning.
