Dear School Community Member:

The CDC, as you may know, issued recommendations yesterday July 27, 2021, given new evidence that the COVID-19 Delta variant is currently circulating in the United States. The new recommendations include:

1) Fully vaccinated people should wear masks in public indoor settings in areas of substantial transmission.
2) The CDC added information that fully vaccinated people might choose to wear a mask regardless of the level of transmission, particularly if they are immunocompromised or at increased risk for severe disease from COVID-19, or if they have someone in their household who is immunocompromised, at increased risk of severe disease or not fully vaccinated.
3) The CDC further added a recommendation for fully vaccinated people who have a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 to be tested 3-5 days after exposure, and to wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result.
4) The CDC recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to schools, regardless of vaccination status.

As a result of this update from the CDC, The Governor’s office issued a statement indicating that they are reviewing the CDC’s new recommendations closely in consultation with federal and state health experts.

I suspect that we will be getting new guidance from the Governor’s office and/or the New York State Department of Health in the very near future.

I will continue to keep you posted.

Thank you.
