COVID-19 Update 10/6/21

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Today we received information that one student in BCES tested positive for COVID-19.  That student has not been in school so contract tracing is not required.  BCES will remain open.

We also learned today that one student in the Junior Senior High School tested positive for COVID-19.  That student was in school this week and we have initiated contact tracing for those students in the Junior Senior High School who may have been exposed, in consultation with the Sullivan County Department of Public Health. The Junior-Senior High School will also remain open.

Students who have been identified as primary exposures will be contacted by the school nurse this afternoon and this evening and will be required to quarantine.

Please note: All quarantines require a quarantine release prior to the student returning to school.  If you do not receive a quarantine order from the Sullivan County Department of Public Health within 48 hours, you must contact them directly so you will be in their system to receive the quarantine release.   This will help avoid any delays returning to school (Sullivan County Public Health Services COVID-19 Information Line: 845-513-2268).

Those students who are quarantined will participate in their full class schedules remotely during the time they are quarantined.  Quarantined students are expected to be fully engaged.  Attendance counts for them the same as it would if they were in the school building.

Please be sure to check your messages frequently for any important updates from the school district. Student, staff, and visitor safety continues to be our number one priority and we would like to thank you for working with us during these challenging times!

For Covid-19 information and resources, please see the message below from Nancy McGraw, director of the Sullivan County Department of Health.

Dr. Ivan Katz

From Nancy McGraw and the Sullivan County Department of Public Health:

Current CDC guidance states that being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 ensures that our staff and students remain safe, and can help avoid quarantine if you are exposed to someone who tests positive as long as you remain asymptomatic and have consistently worn a mask.

Querido Padre/Guardian:
