According to ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act- 2016) schools are required to ensure that teachers in core academic subjects are highly qualified to teach in their assignment area. Parents also have the right to request other information regarding the qualifications of their child's teachers, such as:
- Whether a teacher has New York State certification for the grade levels and subjects he or she is teaching;
- The teacher's bachelor degree major and any other certifications or degrees; and
- Whether their child receives services from paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
Parents seeking this information should contact their school's principal.
