Dear Parent/Guardian:

I want to take a moment to clarify some confusion that has been caused by an Opt-out Letter that is part of the School Calendar you received late this summer.

The confusion and questions that have come to my attention involve some of the wording in the Opt-out letter.

I would like you to be aware that we are required to share this letter with parents about Student Privacy Rights.  The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) comes from the United States Department of Education and was created to afford parents opt-out rights regarding, among other things, participation in surveys, the collection and use of information for marketing purposes, and certain physical exams.

Please keep in mind that the purpose of the Student Privacy notice is to inform you of your rights to opt-out. The language in the notice may be concerning to some members of our school community. That was not our intent and we apologize for it. It is the same language used on the PPRA guidance website (see link below) and it has been included yearly as information to parents in summers past.  It is important to note that the Fallsburg Central School District does not conduct non-emergency invasive physical examinations or screenings on any student as described in the Opt-out notice.

For more information on this you can go to the U.S. Department of Education site  (Protecting Student Privacy) at the following link:  https://studentprivacy.ed.gov/resources/protection-pupil-rights-amendment-ppra-general-guidance

I hope this information clarifies any unintended confusion or questions.

Thank you and welcome to a brand new and exciting school year!

Estimado Padre / Tutor:
