I hope this update finds you safe, positive and healthy! As these difficult and challenging times continue, I would like to thank the entire school community for the tireless work taking place to benefit Fallsburg students. Our school staff has been working hard to feed and educate our students in the face of unprecedented challenges. Our parents and guardians have been working harder than ever to support the education efforts for children at home.

We all know that these are not easy times as we are juggling many things just to get through each day. The idea that it takes a village to raise a child is quite evident. Fallsburg is living proof that this is true. I want to start this message by thanking everyone for their efforts!

The purpose of today’s announcement is to update you on a few items. First and foremost, at today’s daily press conference, Governor Cuomo announced that our public schools will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year. Further, a decision on whether to hold summer school will be made, per the Governor, by the end of the month. We will continue to provide distance learning and meals to our children until the end of the school year.

The governor has also directed school districts to create reopening plans that take into account all of the myriad programs and activities that make a school district a school district. Relative to this, a Fallsburg re-entry plan is something that we have been working on. In the weeks to come, stakeholders will be meeting to share and discuss the implications and ramifications of a school re-opening. We will also discuss plans to handle additional school closures that might occur after we re-open. More on this to come.

In terms of the school budget and board elections, no dates have been set by the Governor as of yet. Hopefully that information will be forthcoming as everyone is anxious to get this process moving along. Once those dates are announced, we will update the school community with those details.

In other news, our building project is moving forward. One of the silver linings in this COVID-19 dark cloud is that we are able to get project work accomplished while the buildings are closed. Social distancing and wearing masks are the new normal for our construction workers.

Again I would like to thank everyone for the grand efforts taking place at school and at home. It takes a coordinated team to be successful amid unchartered territory and the Fallsburg team is getting this done, with a few bumps here and there, but we are getting it done!

Thank you one and all!

Estimados padres y tutores:
